Biography

Steve Bigelow swam the 200 backstroke at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Bigelow swam in college at the University of Michigan. While a student there, he was seriously injured in a sledding accident that left him in intensive care, paralyzed from the waist down, sustaining a fractured skull, a brain contusion, and a concussion. Bigelow regained motor function quickly, but had amnesia from the brain injury for some time. He tried to return to the Olympics, and made the 1992 US Olympic Trials, but was unable to qualify. At Michigan, Bigelow was a Big 10 Champion and an All-American.
