Biography

Tom Blankenburg swam for Lewis and Clark College and represented the Athens Athletic Club in Oakland, California during the 1928 Olympics. A breaststroker, he won the 1930 US indoor 220 yard breaststroke title, by then representing Hollywood Athletic Club. He attempted to compete at the 1932 Olympics but by then had worked as a lifeguard for several years and was declared ineligible as a professional. His name is listed as Blankenburg but it is variably listed as von Blankenburg, and that is the name in the California death index.
