Biography

Bruce Harlan joined the Navy in 1944 and, while serving at the Naval Training Center in Jacksonville in 1947, won the first of his eight AAU titles. He later enrolled at Ohio State and won five NCAA championships. Harlan became one of the nation’s leading diving coaches and took up an appointment at the University of Michigan in 1954. He was killed after a diving exhibition in Connecticut when he fell from a diving tower while dismantling the scaffolding.
