Biography

John Piersma swam in college at the University of Michigan. He was a distance freestyler who swam at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the 200 and 400 freestyles. At Michigan Piersma won NCAA Champion in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles in 1997, was an All-American all four years, and led Michigan to the NCAA title in 1995. Internationally he also swam at the 1997 Pan Pacific Championships.

After college Piersma attended the University of Michigan Medical School, and also did a residency in internal medicine at Michigan. He became board certified as an internist and later practiced in Cincinnati, Ohio.
