Biography

Bulgarian volleyball player Maya Georgieva represented CSKA (Central Sport Klub Army) during the late 1970s and early 1980s and won four league titles with them. Georgieva enjoyed international success with the Bulgarian team, winning bronze at the 1979 European Volleyball Championships and gold at the 1981 tournament. She also won bronze at the 1980 Moskva Olympics when Bulgaria beat Hungary in the best of five sets.

Georgieva and compatriot Verka Stoyanova both went to Italy where they played for Reggio Calabria for three years. After her playing career Georgieva worked as a coach in Italy, France, and Bulgaria.
