Biography

Cuban volleyball player José David Suárez represented the national team in the late 1970s and early 1980s before becoming a successful coach. During 1978 Suárez won two medals at international tournaments with gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games and bronze at the World Volleyball Championships. Two years later he was part of the Cuban squad that competed at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, playing in five matches with the team. Following his retirement Suárez turned to coaching with the national youth team, first winning gold at the South American Youth Championships, followed by bronze at the World Championships.
