Biography

Gaber Abdelaty was a member of the Egyptian national volleyball team from 1972 through 1985, during which time he competed at two editions of the Olympic Games. In 1976 the squad withdrew after one match due to the African boycott, while in 1984 it finished 10th and last after failing to win any of its five games. He also attended two editions of the World Championships, in 1974 and 1978, where Egypt was 17th and 23rd respectively, the 1976 African Championships, which the country won, and the 1983 Mediterranean Games, where the nation placed fifth. Domestically, he spent most of his career with Zamalek, winning nine national championships, although he played two years (1979 and 1980) in the United Arab Emirates. He later worked as a coach with his former club.
