Biography

Andrea Nannini was an Italian volleyball player. Domestically he won four titles, one with Vigili Fuoco Ruini Firenze (1968) and three with Panini Modena (1970, 1972, 1974). Afterwards he moved to Torino, where played in 1976, and finally ended the career with Gonzaga Milano (1976-78).

Nannini débuted with the national team on 21 June 1962 in a winning match against Yugoslavia (3-2). He won the gold medal at the 1970 Summer Universiade, held in Torino, and, in 1976, competed at the Olympic tournament in Montréal (eighth place). It was the first time that an Italian volleyball team (men or women) had taken part in the quadrennial Games. He played his last match with the Azzurra jersey at the 1976 Olympics, losing against Brazil 3-0 on 27 July. He won a total of 205 international caps.

Nannini turned to coaching after his active career and coached in many clubs, including Gonzaga Milano, Panini Modena (where he won one Italian cup and two European Cup Winners’ Cup), Marconi Tours Bologna, and Sauber Bologna, ending with Virgilio Mantova.
