Biography

Victor de Behr was the son of a German-born father and French-born mother. His grandfather, Jean Joseph Alexander André de Behr (1785–1855), a native of Maastricht, was a civil engineer and judge and first made a member of the nobility with a knighthood in 1828. A longtime member of the Brussels Swimming and Water Polo Club, Victor de Behr was a member of their highly successful water polo team, winning a silver medal at the 1900 Paris Olympics. de Behr also served as the club’s treasurer in the late 1890s. A resident of Bruxelles, his professional career was as a merchant. He also was a member of the Belgian Photography Association.
