Biography

Nikolaos Baltatzis-Mavrokordatos was a water polo player who competed at the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games. Baltatzis-Mavrokordatos studied law in Athina and München and then went into journalism and politics. His journalism career started with the newspaper Kathimerini. In 1936 he was elected to parliament from the People’s Party, while in 1946-47 he served as Press Minister and was then the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Baltatzis-Mavrokordatos was a member of the Hellenic Nautical Club and the Athenian Club. He also served in sports administration, as President of the Greek Wrestling Federation, and as a member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, serving as second vice-president from 1957-60.
