Biography

After being active as a forward in the water polo tournaments of the 1920 and 1924 Olympics, Nils Backlund was coach of the Swedish team at the 1928 Olympics. Until 1917, he was a member of Stockholms Kappsimningsklubb SKK and subsequently was with SK Neptun. He won the Swedish title four times and played 13 international matches for Sweden. Also an excellent soccer player, Backlund was the goalkeeper of IFK Stockholm. From 1932-46 he was chairman of the Swedish Swimming Federation.
