Biography

Austrian lightweight weightlifter Leopold Treffny set two world records in the middleweight clean & jerk in 1925 and 1927. He finished an unfortunate fourth at the 1924 Paris Olympics with the same result as the Czech Bohumil Durdis, who took the bronze medal because he weighed 500 grams less than Treffny.

Treffny finished fifth at the 1923 World Championships. He also won the 1925 International Czech Championships and finished second at the German Fighting Games the following year. Domestically, Treffny won Austrian national titles in 1923-25, and the Wiener (Vienna) Championships in 1926. He emigrated to Argentina in 1929, and died at Buenos Aires.
