Ney López

Ney López did not take up weightlifting until 1948, when he was nearly 20 years old. He participated in his first edition of the National Games of Colombia in 1954, held in his native department of Valle del Cauca, as a lightweight, but did not reach the podium. His next stop was the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he failed to lift any weight and thus did not place. Three years later, he had his greatest success at the 1959 Central American and Caribbean Games, where he took gold in his division.

López attended his second edition of the Olympics in 1960, where he placed ninth in a field of 33 competitors, and then won the event at the 1960 National Games. After defending his Central American and Caribbean title in 1962, he retired from active competition and later took up coaching and training at his private gym.
