Biography

Heavyweight lifter Rainer Dörrzapf finished 11th in the light-heavyweight class at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Four years later in München, he finished eighth in the heavyweight class. In 1968 and 1970, he won the Donau Cup for junior weightlifters. Between 1969 and 1976 Dörrzapf won four West German national titles, a gold at the 1972 World Championships, and a silver at the 1970 Worlds.

After his retirement, Dörrzapf studied sports in Trier and at the Deutsche Sporthochschule in Köln, and graduated as a sports teacher. He then became national coach in Leimen 1981-2003, and then at the Regional Olympic Center in Heidelberg up to 2012. His son André also became a weightlifter.
