During the 1970s Slovenian weightlifter Jože Urankar competed for Yugoslavia in the light-heavyweight class. Urankar won two silver medals at the Balkan Championships and two bronze medals at the 1975 Mediterranean Games. He was selected to compete at the 1972 München Olympics, finishing 16th with a combined total lift of 425.0 kg.
