Léonard Dütz’s greatest success as a wrestler came at the 1967 World Championships, where he placed sixth in the Greco-Roman featherweight division. He also competed in that same class at the Mexico Olympics, but was eliminated after three rounds of competition, losing two of his three matches. While teaching at the Brussels conservatory, Dütz got into special effects for film and television. With his wife, he founded a special effects company (Ducro), which became especially known for their snow cannons - designed by Dütz - and fire effects. This got him credits for various films and TV series, of which “Band of Brothers” is the most internationally known. He was also occasionally a stuntman, including for the 1987 film “Hector”, where he stood in for the Belgian comedian Urbanus - to whom Dütz bore some resemblance. In 2008, Dütz and his wife moved to Spain, where he died in 2025 after a short illness.
