Biography

Fridolf Lundsten appeared just once in the Finnish Championship lists in Greco-Roman wrestling. In 1911, he placed third in the 73 kg division, which obviously earned him a spot in the Olympic team. In the same year, he competed in the same class at the unofficial World Championship placing seventh. At the 1912 Olympics, he advanced to round four, where he lost to future Olympic champion Claes Johanson by decision after half an hour of wrestling. Subsequently, he withdrew.

Lundsten returned in 1923, when he won the middleweight title at the first Finnish championships in freestyle wrestling. Twelve years after Stockholm, he competed in his second Olympics in Paris. In the freestyle welterweight division, he lost his first and only bout against Britain’s John Davis.

An interesting piece of trivia is the fact that he set a Finnish record with 105 kilos in the bridge press, originally a training exercise for wrestlers.
