Biography

The Metropolitan Police heavyweight wrestling champion in 1923, Victor Lay was runner-up that year to the holder Noel Rhys in the middleweight division at the National Wresting Championships. Lay qualified for the 1924 Olympics (at light-heavyweight) by beating a fellow Metropolitan Police officer, Fred Stone, in the final Olympic trial at London’s Holborn Stadium. In Paris, however, Lay was beaten in his first round contest on a decision by Finland’s Iisakki Mylläri.
