Biography

After receiving a bye in the first round, Sidney Peake of Hammersmith Amateur Wrestling Club eventually was defeated by eventual silver medallist John Slim (of the same club) in the quarter-final of the featherweight freestyle event at the 1908 London Olympics. He remained active in wrestling until at least 1912. Peake was a dental mechanic by trade, and a veteran of World War I with the Royal Navy. He later settled in the Harrow, Middlesex area, and was married with one daughter.
