Biography

A member of the Apollo Amateur Wrestling Club located near Shoreditch, William Tagg’s amateur wrestling career prior to his participation in the 1908 Olympics seems to have been of little significance and longevity. Despite this, Tagg managed to make it to the bronze medal match of the freestyle event in the featherweight class, which he lost to William McKie.

A lifelong resident of the Bethnal Green area of London, Tagg was an upholsterer and furniture maker by profession, taking after his father.
