Biography

East German wrestler Siegfried Schäfer from Jena placed fifth in the Greco-Roman welterweight at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. He qualified for the Olympics at the Budapest World Cup only a few months earlier by winning a bronze medal. He earned three East German national titles from 1957-59, and claimed three more second and third places.
