Biography

West German freestyle wrestler Martin Knosp, the brother of Erwin, won the silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the welterweight class. He was the World Championship winner in 1981, runner-up in 1979, and third in 1983. He was also the European Champion in 1980 and 1982, runner-up in 1979 and 1984, and third in 1981 and 1985.

Knosp won ten consecutive national titles from 1977-86. A trained businessman he had a son, Thomas, who has also become a successful wrestler. Knosp worked as a civil servant in the Ortenau District Office. He was also involved in wrestling as a sports administrator, and became president of Südbadischer Ringer Verband.
