Biography

Anton Mackowiak was a West German wrestler who competed in the welterweight class. He participated in both styles at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics but was eliminated early in both competitions. With ASV Heros Dortmund he won the West German Team Championship in 1949, 1951, 1953-55 and 1957 and won individual West German Greco-Roman titles in 1950, 1952 and 1954 and at freestyle in 1951. Mackowiak’s greatest moment came in 1955 when he won the silver medal at the World Championships. A truck driver by profession he was employed by the Hanse Breweries in Dortmund.
