Biography

Flyweight freestyle wrestler Fritz Niebler lost his first two bouts at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and was eliminated early. Eight years later at Los Angeles he finished seventh. Due to the US-led boycott of the Moskva Games he could not participate in 1980. He narrowly missed the podiums at the 1980, 1981 and 1984 European Championships, placing fifth, fourth and seventh, respectively. At the 1982 and 1983 Worlds he came seventh and ninth.

Domestically, Niebler won West German national titles in 1978, 1981-86 and 1988. By profession, Niebler was a trained roofer and was later employed by the municipality of his hometown, Viernheim.
