Biography

Heini Weber was a West German wrestler who competed in the flyweight class. He participated in both styles at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, finishing fourth in the Greco-Roman style and fifth in the freestyle. Weber won his Greco-Roman bout against Leo Honkala from Finland, but the jury acted on a protest from the Finnish delegation and changed his win to a loss and Weber consequently lost the bronze medal. At the World Championships he finished fifth in 1951 (freestyle), again fifth in 1953 (Greco-Roman), and seventh in 1955 (Greco-Roman). He won German national Greco-Roman titles in 1950 and 1952-54, and freestyle titles in 1950-51, and 1954. During World War II he was captured and held prisoner by the Americans from 1943 until his release in 1947.
