Biography

Hideichi Yoshioka was from Setouchi town on Amami Ōshima island, one of the Ryukyu Islands. A student from Meiji University, he competed in the featherweight class of Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. At home, Yoshioka won three consecutive national titles in freestyle wrestling, 1936-37 in the featherweight and 1938 in the lightweight class. Greco-Roman wrestling was not contested in Japan before World War II.
