Biography

Richard Frydenlund competed in the lightweight division of the Greco-Roman wrestling tournaments at the 1912 and 1920 Olympic Games. In 1912, he was eliminated after round 4 and in 1920 in the quarterfinals after being shouldered by the future silver medalist Taavi Tamminen. In 1912, he was joined by his younger brother Thorbjørn in the same division.

Richard had a long but discontinuous career at the Norwegian national championships: in the lightweight class 68 kg), he placed 1st in 1912 and 1926, 2nd in 1919, and 3rd in 1921; in welterweight (74 kg), he was 2nd in 1931.
