Fabrizio Della Fiori

Born in the province of Cremona, Fabrizio Della Fiori moved with his family as a youngster to Novate Milanese. He started playing basketball at 13 and moved to Cantù at age 16, near Milano, after being offered better training and other inducements.

Coach Boris Stankovic brought him to the national team in the 1968-69 season, and he spent 12 seasons with the Azzurri. He played for Cantù for 12 seasons (1967-79), winning Italian League Championships in 1968 and 1975, an Intercontinental Cup in 1975, three Korac Cups from 1973-75, and three Saporta Cups (1977-79). Della Fiori later played for Reyer Venezia, Varese, APU Udine, and Robur Varese, retiring from Italy’s top league in 1986, although he continued to play in minor leagues until he was 49-years-old, playing one season with his son, Daniele, as his teammate.

Della Fiori played at the Olympics in 1976 and 1980, also appearing at three European Championships, with a silver medal in 1975, and he played at one World Championship. He was inducted into the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.
