Biography

Aleksandr Ivanov took up wresting in 1966 and made the Soviet national team in 1975. Ivanov, who competed in the freestyle flyweight class his entire career, made his international début at the 1976 Olympics, where he won silver. Ivanov also won silver at the 1977 European Championships and bronze at the 1978 World Cup. Domestically, he won two Soviet titles (1974, 1976). After finishing his sporting career in 1979, Ivanov worked as a head of the combat sports department at the Churapcha Physical Culture Institute in Yakutia and later worked as director of a sports school in Mirny, Yakutia.
