Biography

Victório Ferraz’s father Mariano founded the Soma Corporation, which manufactured railroad cars, in Sao Paulo in 1929, and sent his son Mackenzie Presbyterian University to learn business. After his graduation, Victório was employed at his father’s firm for many years prior to becoming its Chief Executive Officer. During this time he represented Brazil in Swallow-class sailing at the 1948 Summer Olympics, where he and Carlos Borchers finished 10th among 14 boats. Ferraz was active as a board member in several trade associations and helped build industrial ties between Brazil and the United States. After making frequent trips to the country, he eventually settled in Florida for his retirement.
