Biography

Freddy Ehrström won his first Finnish national championship in Star Class sailing in 1952 and captured his next two titles in 1959 and 1960, just in time to be selected for Rome Olympics. There, alongside Rolf Zachariassen, his partner in the latter two victories, he placed 14th in a field of 26 entrants, despite a strong start of fifth in the first race. This was Ehrström’s sole appearance at the Olympics (although he did take part in European Championships), but he and Zachariassen would go on to win one more national championship in this class in 1971. Ehrström also worked in his sport as an administrator with the International Sailing Federation and as an international judge.
