Biography

Gerry Fairhead was a man of many interests. A graduate of Lakefield College School, he attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1948. During that time, he gained an interest in photography and eventually served as national president of the Color Photographic Association of Canada. He also had an interest in sailing and, in 1948, represented his country in Star Class sailing at the London Olympics. There, with Bill Gooderham, he placed eighth among 17 teams, after a best finish of fourth in the third race. Thereafter, the course of Fairhead’s life changed significantly and he earned a degree in theology from Wycliffe College, the University of Toronto’s graduate theological school. He spent the rest of his life in the service of religion as the Reverend Canon Gerry Fairhead.
