Yevgeny Kun was the owner of a shipyard in St. Petersburg and a member of the Imperial Yacht Club since 1902. He designed many boats for the club as well as canoes for the holidays of the Imperial family. Kun owned yachts and was a skipper and crew member for other owners including Vyacheslav Kuzmichev. At the 1912 Olympics, he competed as a member of the crew of the yacht Norman in the 8 metres class placing fourth and fifth in the two races.
In February 1913, he was the victim of an accident. During a snowmobile competition, he fell into the propeller of an aerosled which cut off his left arm. Kun remained conscious until the fragments of his arm were later amputated in a clinic.
