Biography

Adelchi Pelaschier was from a famous family of sailors. He was the eighth son of Francesco Pelaschier who, in 1926, had moved from Fasana to the Panzano district of the city of Monfalcone, and became a carpenter and then an ax master at the Cosulich shipyard. The Oscar Cosulich Sailing Company (SVOC) was born in the neighborhood in 1933, and was a catalyst for young people of great passion and talent and Adelchi, together with his older brother Annibale Pelaschier, soon entered the ranks of Italian sailors.

Annibale preferred the Dragon class and raced with Sergio Sorrentino and his nephew Trevisan, while Adelchi was a specialist on Dinghies and then Finn. In 1958 Adelchi won gold at the European Championship in Lisbon. In the same year Adelchi participated in the Finn Gold Cup in Zeebrugge in Belgium, winning a bronze medal behind the legendary Paul Elvstrøm and André Nelis. Pelaschier was made a Knight of the Italian Republic for his sporting achievements.
