Biography

Nils Persson was a banker from Stockholm after having started his career as an accountant. With his wife Signe Ottilia (née Pettersson) he had two sons and two daughters. He was appointed Knight of the Order of the North Star and of the Norwegian Order of St. Olav.

Persson was a crew member of the Erna Signe which placed second in both races behind the Norwegian Magda XI in the 12 metres class at the 1912 Olympics. Accordingly, the crew was awarded the silver medal. Persson was one of the two owners of the Erna Signe named after his daughters Erna and Signe.

In 1935, he was sentenced to 1½ years in prison for fraud, embezzlement and disloyalty to his principal. He actually spent 12 months in Stockholm’s Långholmen Central Prison when he was released.
