Biography

Wally Masur was an Australian tennis player who played professionally from 1982 to 1995. Masur achieved a career-best singles ranking of #15 in the world in October 1993, and a doubles ranking of eighth in the world in April 1993. He was part of Australia’s Davis Cup team from 1985 to 1993.

Masur reached the junior singles and doubles finals at the 1980 Australian Open, losing to Craig Miller in the singles, then partnering Miller to win the doubles title. He was a prolific doubles player on the ATP Tour, winning 16 titles from 1983 to 1993, where he often partnered compatriots Broderick Dyke and Mark Kratzmann. Masur also won three ATP singles titles between 1983 and 1988.

At Grand Slams Masur reached the singles semi-finals at the 1987 Australian Open and the 1993 US Open. He was a three-time semi-finalist in the doubles, doing so twice at the French Open (1988 and 1992), and once at the Australian Open (1993). He competed in the singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, reaching the second round in Seoul.
