Born as Otto Harry Pettersen, the family changed their name to Rosensvärd in 1897 and was introduced into the nobility. Like his father he was a career officer in the Swedish navy. Harry was a student at the Royal Swedish Naval Academy and graduated as a naval officer in 1904. As a torpedo officer, he served on several navy ships of the navy. During World War I he was commander aboard the torpedo boats Blixt and Orkan. He was promoted to division commander and became head of the Karlskrona torpedo readiness in 1916. Later Rosensvärd was appointed commander of the fisheries inspection ship Svensksund. After his father’s death in 1929, Harry inherited the membership in the nobility. He was a member of the crew of the Swedish yacht Kitty, which easily won both races in the 10-metre class at the 1912 Olympic Games. Kitty and her crew won the first Swedish gold in sailing.
