Biography

Felix Scheder-Bieschin won the bronze medal with the 8-metre class sailing team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics at Kiel, where the sailing events took place. Owner of the boat Germania III was Alfried von Bohlen und Halbach and skipper was Hans Howaldt. The regattas were marred by plenty of protests by teams against each other, and by referees, who were more interested in formalities for submitting protests than trying to resolve the protests themselves.

Scheder-Bieschin studied law and political economics. In 1934 he became CEO of the Nordseewerke (North Sea Company) in Emden, and from 1937 until his death, he was chairman of the Howaldtswerke in Kiel. Having obtained the rank of Korvettenkapitän (Corvette Captain) he died when the ship he was on in the Baltic Sea in 1940, was hit by a torpedo during World War II.
