Austrian sailor Karl Stangl participated in the 1972 München Olympics when the sailing events were held at Kiel. He partnered Franz Eisl and Harald Fereberger in the three-person keelboat dragon class and the crew finished tenth out of 23 boats.
The same three had won the Austrian national title the previous year and also in the following two years. In 1972 they also won the soling national title.
