Biography

Haimar Wedemeyer finished sixth with the 6-metre class sailing team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics at Kiel, where the sailing events took place. Their boat Gustel V was disqualified in races two and five, otherwise it would have won a medal. Only a few weeks earlier, the yacht had won the German national title.

Wedemayer studied law in Kiel and later practiced as a lawyer. During World War II he was the commander of German submarine “U 365” in the rank of Kapitänleutnant zur See. He was awarded the German Cross in Gold and the Iron Cross I. and II. Class.
