Afghanistan made their Olympic début at the 1936 Berlin Games, sending a small delegation to compete in athletics and field hockey. Mohammad Khan ran in the 100 metres and competed in the long jump, but failed to progress from the first round in either event. He was also named in Afghanistan’s hockey team but did not play in any matches. Khan later became a 4-star general, and from 1960 to 1971 served in King Zahir Shah’s government as the Afghani Minister of Defense.
