Biography

John Farrington was an Australian distance runner who competed in the marathon at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where he finished 43rd. He also ran the marathon at the 1974 Commonwealth Games, finishing fifth. Farrington was a four-time Australian Champion in the marathon, winning in 1969-70 and 1974-75, and finished second in 1971 behind Derek Clayton, at the time the world record holder.

Farrington ran three times (1970-72) at the Fukuoka Marathon, then the de facto world championship, finishing second in 1972 behind Frank Shorter and sixth in 1970 and 1971. He won the 1972 Košice Peace Marathon, then one of the world’s top city marathons. Farrington won 11 marathons in his career and recorded 14 times under 2 hours, 20 minutes, then a world class marathon.

Personal Best: Mar – 2-11:13 (1973).
