Stuart Poulter, captain of the Newtown Harriers, won the 1911 Coronation Marathon, also the New South Wales championship, in his hometown in 2-54:38.2, the best time achieved in Australia that year. In 1910, he was already one of Australia’s top marathon runners. Unfortunately, he did not finish the Olympic marathon in Stockholm in 1912. Poulter was married to Ethel Rose Skrimshire.
