Biography

Regina Branner was primarily a weight thrower, competing in shot put at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, but she also excelled in the early years of women’s pentathlon. She was Austrian Champion in the shot put in 1954-56, the javelin throw in 1954, and the pentathlon in 1954 and 1956.

In her Olympic year she broke the Austrian shot put record seven times, taking it from 13.50 to 14.60 at Melbourne, a mark which would last for over a decade. In 1956 she also set the Austrian record for the pentathlon. Branner competed at the 1954 European Championships, placing 11th in shot put.
