Biography

Rupert Blöch was the Austrian champion in the 100 metres (1952), 400 (1949-1952), 4×100 relay (1949), and 4×400 relay (1950). He was selected for the 1952 Helsinki Olympics but was eliminated in the preliminaries of the 400 metres.

During his athletics career Blöch studied physics and finished with a master’s degree at the age of 23. After spending two years in Germany working for Siemens-Reiniger-Werke in Erlangen, he moved to Sweden. He worked for LM (now Ericsson) from 1955-59 and met his future wife Majbritt. They settled down in Kapfenberg, and Blöch worked for Böhler-Kapfenberg until his retirement in 1985. He was also interested in music, languages, and travelling.

Personal Best: 400 – 48.0 (1952).
