Biography

Active in the early 1920s Aimé Proot was a Belgian long-distance runner who represented KAA Gent. Proot ran in the 10,000 metres at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics where he finished eighth in his heat with only the top five athletes advancing to the final. He also ran in the cross-country race in Antwerpen finishing 36th, where his performance counted towards the team placings, with Belgium finishing sixth. The following year Proot became the national champion in the 10,000 metres, setting a Belgian record in the process that stood until 1923. He won first of three consecutive road race titles in 1921 with victory in the Marathon of Flanders, which was run on courses between 22 and 28km in length.
