David Griffin started out as a track and field athlete before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. In the 1920s Griffin competed in middle-distance track races, which earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1928 Amsterdam Games. He finished fourth in his heat in the 1,500 metres with only the top two athletes progressing to the final. He was also scheduled to run in the 5,000 metres and the 3,000 metres steeplechase in Amsterdam but did not start in either race. In World War II Griffin served as a press relations officer at the rank of Flying Officer. In February 1944 he was killed as a passenger onboard a ferry plane that crashed in Newfoundland after taking off in Iceland.
Personal Best: 1500 – 4:02.0 (1928).
