Canadian track and field athlete Joe Haley competed in the high jump during the 1930s. He was Canadian champion in the high jump in 1934 and 1936. In 1934 Haley won silver at the British Empire Games in London after losing a jump-off for the gold medal to Edwin Thacker of South Africa. Two years later he competed in the high jump at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he tied for 12th with nine other athletes, including Thacker. Haley returned to the British Empire Games in 1938 where he finished sixth. He held the Canadian record in the event for a long time, with him later being honoured with a track named after him in British Columbia.
