Art Keay

Art Keay’s two passions were running and policing and, as soon as he left high school, he began working on careers in both fields. His biggest year in athletics was in 1928, when he finished fourth in the Toronto Marathon and helped represent Canada at the 1928 Summer Olympics. There he competed in the 3,000 m steeplechase and 5,000 m events, but did not reach the finals of either competition. By 1929 he was also competed for the Toronto Police Athletic Association both nationally and in the United States but, by 1931, his career in amateur athletics was winding down and he began to focus solely on law enforcement, eventually rising to the rank of sergeant in Toronto. He served as an officer and a detective in the police force until 1956, his athletic prowess serving him numerous times in catching criminals, prior to becoming an executive chauffeur and transportation officer for TransCanada PipeLines, as well as a proponent of tanning.
