Biography

Roger Smith was a tennis player from the Bahamas who played professionally from 1987 to 2002. Smith achieved a career-best singles ranking of #96 in the world in August 1988, and a doubles ranking of #73 in the world in March 1991. He played for the Bahamas at the Davis Cup from 1985 to 2000.

On the ATP Tour Smith won three doubles titles between October 1988 and January 1996, winning titles with Paul Wekesa, Kent Kinnear, and Mark Knowles. At Grand Slam tournaments Smith reached the doubles quarter-finals at the 1990 US Open with partner Andrew Castle. Smith’s best singles performance came at the 1994 US Open where he reached the third round where he lost to Pete Sampras.

Smith competed in the singles and doubles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics but lost in the first round in both events. Four years later he played in just the doubles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he and Mark Knowles reached the second round.
